Through photographs I am to capture the natural beauty of the landscape and the intricate behaviour of wildlife in their natural habitats. My drawings and paintings, too, reflect my love for nature. I create detailed wildlife drawings and abstract paintings that explore themes in nature. Ultimately, my goal is to reveal the beauty and complexity of the natural world, provoking thought about its significance and inviting others to pause and contemplate the delicate balance we share with nature. She started taking watercolour classes several years ago and was surprised to learn that this medium allows so many interesting and fun techniques, including the use of salt, plastic wrap, masking fluid, and sponges, all of which she uses in her paintings. Her favourite subjects are always outdoors, including the Devon River Valley and Jasper National Park. When she has a hard time pulling herself away from a breathtaking view, she takes a photo and looks forward to recreating the scene with her paints. Take a good look at God s wonders. They will take your breath away. Psalm 66:5 See more

I fell in love with printmaking during my Arts Degree at the University of Alberta and started making prints in my basement art studio. I find my inspiration from natural elements in the world and try to draw attention to the intricacies, delicate patterns and intimate moments that I find in nature. As an immigrant, I also try to bring in elements that connect back to my roots as a Chinese-Canadian. Each of my handmade prints are created in hopes to capture a precious moment in time: whether it is a kitten curled up in a fresh pile of leaves or a moth gently nestled on a flower petal. Printmaking has become a language for me to share these moments with those around me: a moment that can be communicated through a single glance. If I m not working on my prints in my basement studio I am either visiting local cafes or marking as I am also a part-time teacher! See more

Kathy Schnell is an artist from Sherwood Park. She has worked with many art mediums in her life, but fell in love with Encaustic. Encaustic art is painting with beeswax! She works with this medium in its hot, molten state, and as it cools on the canvas, it hardens. Many layers are required to create luscious texture and luminosity.
